It isn’t rocket science– the less you wear, the more it sells. Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Nicki Minaj, and JLO likely wouldn’t have the careers they have without showing a little skin. “Nude selfies ’til I die,” was Kim’s 2015 defense after a totally nude selfie caused waves of backlash, ET reports.
“I don’t do drugs, I hardly drink, I’ve never committed a crime—and yet I’m a bad role model for being proud of my body?” To be fair, Kim had a point. This Kardashian isn’t the only one taking to Instagram without much clothing, though. #ClothingOptional seems to be the new black as endless female celebs eye up the benefits of wearing less (and showing more).
Miley Cyrus recently updated her Instagram with a sheer top that left little to the imagination. Make no mistake, though. Miley Cyrus has a lot of class. Then again, there are the ladies who spend their lives worshipping classy brands (but are a world away from “classic Chanel”). Yes, we’re looking at you, Nicki Minaj.
If a woman wants to post a half-nude selfie of herself, it’s entirely her choice. That Instagram platform is hers to use as she wishes. Paparazzi shots of wardrobe malfunctions are an entirely different matter. The celeb has been caught out and exposed (and it’s pretty unfair).
Cardi B isn’t wearing much these days. Blac Chyna never did. Whether it’s reality stars or music icons, they’re all at it. Straight from their Instagram accounts, here are 15 celebs who are definitely indulging in the #ClothingOptional.
Kim Kardashian: Itsy-Bitsy As They Come
Kim Kardashian doesn’t hold back. She’s proud of her body and she doesn’t care what you think. In 2018, the Kardashians flew to Japan for a high-profile Yeezy campaign. Sitting in the “most Instagrammable ice-cream parlor” was People‘s take on one pic. It didn’t need much commentary. “Nudles” was the clever caption as Kim carefully covered all the necessary parts with noodles.
“I am empowered by feeling comfortable in my skin. I am empowered by showing the world my flaws and not being afraid of what anyone is going to say about me.”
As E! reports, Kim will 100% shut down the shamers. And quite rightly so. In an age that’s finally learned to accept curves, this woman is actually pretty inspirational. Still, you can’t say that Kim walks around like a nun.
Nicki Minaj: Versace-Obsessed, Doesn’t Seem To Own Clothes
Nicki Minaj is the opposite of a doormat. Power-pushing to the point of shading everyone she’s ever dated on “Barbie Dreams,” this rapper comes with close to 100 million Instagram followers (and she’s got the lyrics to match). “Yo, I got the money and the power now,” is what you’ll hear on Queen. Nicki’s other love aside from music? Fashion.
“Vintage Hermès by Jean Paul Gaultier, Lagerfeld customize my gold chair.” The lyrics quote designers. The songs are called “Coco Chanel.” Wearing it? That’s a different story.
Nicki is now at the point where Donatella Versace custom-designs outfits for her. We weren’t there during the fittings, but we’ll assume “less is more” was a request from Nicki. We love this girl, but she is earning her slot on this list.
Kendall Jenner: It’s Never Boring With This Girl
Kendall Jenner is now the world’s highest-paid model. With 2017-2019 earnings of $22.5 million, Forbes might not be ranking this KarJenner up with her billionaire sister, but Kendall does well for herself. For a fashionista and style icon though, Kendall also has a remarkable ability to wear very little clothing.
This pic left little to the imagination. Nevertheless, you’ve got to admit, it’s pretty creative. “It’s almost, like, trendy to hate on my family,” Kendall told Vogue in 2018. “It’s not so much that people actually believe that we suck, but it became a thing: If you hate on us, it’s cool or something.”
The KarJenners do receive their fair share of unnecessary hate. Kendall’s got enough of a backbone to take it, though. Whether it’s skimpy swimwear in the snow or thigh-high boots, this girl knows how to show what she’s got.
Britney Spears: Pushing 40, Still “Baby One More Time”
In 2018, Page Six reported the “secret” behind Britney Spears’ super-fit body. Apparently, it’s her trainer boyfriend. This girl takes us way back. “Baby one more time” is either an old-school favorite you still bop along to in the car (or you just aren’t old enough to remember the late 90s).
Britney is now 37 years old. Arguably more-grounded and more-stable than she ever was, Britney’s Instagram is a wholesome mix of family snaps, lots of workouts, and yes, lots of this. Britney was never one to hold back with outfits. A snake wrapped around her bare midriff on stage? She’s cool with that.
With over 20 million followers on Instagram, Britney remains one of those pop icons who just isn’t fading out. While Britney had to cancel recent appearances following her dad’s health issues, the Instagram is 100% still “Baby one more time.”
Miley Cyrus: Keeps Her Cards Close To Her Chest
Think twice before you judge Miley Cyrus. Why? Because you might well find yourself with nothing to judge. Hannah Montana was a zillion years ago. Miley’s voice is now her career. If you want a reminder of how good it is, go to YouTube and watch Miley with Ariana Grande at One Love Manchester.
The new Mrs. Liam Hemsworth might come with floor-length gowns and a classy vibe, but Miley nonetheless finds herself on this list for posting shots like these. “I obviously have hang-ups, but I’m not going to get stuck on it. If you’re funny enough and cool enough and confident, that’s what will make you feel beautiful,” Miley told Elle.
It’s bold. It’s brazen. At the same time though, it’s got a way classier feel than other celebrity posts. Wen it comes to little clothing done right, we’re handing it to Miley.
Kylie Jenner: “I Take, Like, 500 Selfies To Get One I Like”
No-one is bigger than Kylie Jenner right now. As BBC reports that Kylie is officially the “youngest self-made billionaire” in history, the 2018 news that Kylie is worth $900 million is now “old news.” This girl’s Instagram? Stormi is now a major feature, but a leopard doesn’t change its spots.
“I take, like, 500 selfies to get one I like. Sometimes I regret putting one up if I find a better one later, I’m like: Damn, that’s a better photo, but that’s the only thing I regret.”
Speaking to The Daily Mail, Kylie outlined just how carefully she picks those snaps. Yes, 500 selfies. As to how much clothing Kylie wears…well, she is a Kardashian. This pic kind of proves our point.
JLO: Blood, Sweat, And Tears (Also, Just, Wow)
Curves are JLO’s trademark. Or should we say were (until those muscles came along). At 49 years old, Jennifer Lopez continues to wipe the floor with the competition, and she’s one of the few stars her age to continue racking up Instagram followers. Over 80 million of us are following JLO. She told Today:
“(My curves) didn’t bother me at all. It finally got to the point that I was like: This is who I am. I’m shaped like this. Everybody I grew up with looked like that, and they were all beautiful to me.”
Blood, sweat, and tears pretty much sum this lady’s attitude right up. The gym selfies might be scantily-clad, but they’re major enough to land Ms. Lopez The Rock as her workout buddy.
Ariana Grande: Reminding Us “God Is A Woman”
It’s Ariana Grande mania right now (and we’re loving it). High ponytails are now the go-to style for everyone from Kim Kardashian to Jennifer Lopez, although Ariana is the OG. “Break up with your girlfriend, I’m bored” is a full-blown hashtag on Instagram. Ariana herself is now the most-followed person on the platform.
With 147 million followers, Ariana Grande is now the most-followed person on Instagram. If you object, literally, “Thank U, Next.”
While “7 Rings” definitely turned things up a notch with lingerie, Ariana herself actually tends to wear more clothes than other celebs overall. Still, “God Is A Woman” came with this pic. Tastefully done, but nonetheless replacing clothes with paint, guys went nuts, girls did too, and Ariana continued to get more famous.
Cardi B: Basically, Instagram “Fashion” Right Now
“And I park my Bentley truck on my Versace driveway.” Nobody says it quite like Cardi B. The fastest-rising female rapper of 2018 landed herself more contracts than we can count in 2019, although spending it all on clothes doesn’t seem to be Cardi’s style. Cardi now has a Fashion Nova collection. It basically sold out the minute it became available.
She’s got a baby called culture (and anything else “would’ve been basic,” she told SNL). Cardi might be a mother, but she isn’t going to let that get in the way of her style. Which, apparently, seems to be this.
Cardi has openly admitted to having cosmetic enhancements. Making sure they’re on show seems to rank highly on her agenda, although we’ve got to say, this woman mostly looks sensational.
Kourtney Kardashian: Launching A New Brand, We’ll Assume It Isn’t Clothes
Kourtney Kardashian recently updated her Instagram to announce the upcoming launch of her new brand, “Poosh.” We’ll assume that’s something to do with “posh,” or perhaps “push.” The formerly lower-profile Kardashian is now right up there with her sisters, and it looks like she’s following the family’s #ClothingOptional philosophies.
Kim: “We got into a fight. I said: You’re the least exciting to look at. What I meant is, you’re the most boring.” Ouch.
2018 brought us the mother of all catfights as Kim called Kourtney “the least exciting to look at” on KUWTK. As This Is Insider reports, Kim did apologize, although she did do it in “Kim style.” Kourtney knows when to cover up, but when this girl is out to impress, she shows some flesh.
Blac Chyna: Apparently This Constitutes An “Outfit”
Sometimes, there are just no words. Blac Chyna is the tough-talking baby momma to Rob Kardashian (and the fact that Tyga was her first baby daddy is mostly forgotten). With powerful Kardashian links and a smart business mind, this girl might seem ditzy on Instagram, but she’s one smart cookie.
Chyna isn’t a model you’ll see on the cover of Vogue. She doesn’t walk for Ralph Lauren or Gucci, but she sure knows how to turn heads. She also speaks for herself. “I was already Blac Chyna before the Kardashians,” she told Good Morning America.
Assets on show, fake hair, fake lashes (and selling her own). While Chyna doesn’t scream: “Class” in the way that Emma Watson or Jennifer Aniston do, she’s still up there with over 15 million followers. And no, there isn’t much clothing.
Khloe Kardashian: Always On Show, But Tristan Still Wanders
“Why are you lying @jordynwoods?” Khloe Kardashian’s Twitter posts in the wake of the Jordyn Woods and Tristan Thomspon drama have been flowing steadily. As Cosmopolitan reports, Khloe initially lashed out at Kylie’s BFF, following the news that Jordyn has been involved with her baby daddy. She then redacted the statement.
“Tristan is equally to blame but Tristan is the father of my child. Regardless of what he does to me I won’t do that to my daughter. He has been addressing this situation PRIVATELY. If Tristan were to lie publicly about what conspired, then yes I would address him publicly as well.”
Where the clothing comes in? She’s a Kardashian. Khloe covers up more than Kim, but she’s on our list for a reason. Ultimately, it looks like it’s Tristan’s loss. This beautiful, funny, charming girl is way too good for him.
Jordyn Woods: Carving Out Quite The Career
Everyone wants to hear what this girl has to say right now. And hear it they did when Jordyn Woods sat face-to-face with Jada Pinkett-Smith on Red Table Talk. Jordyn “kissed” Tristan, but no more, she maintains. We eyed up Jordyn’s Instagram following during the drama. It shot up close to a million in less than a week.
“I know I’m not the reason Tristan and Khloe are not together. This situation may have made it harder for her to want to be with him, and I understand that, but I know I’m not the reason.”
As Jordyn told Jada (and Khloe now agrees with), it looks like Tristan is out on his own. Jordyn’s clothes? Well, she has her own line, but this pic wasn’t showing much of it.
Farrah Abraham: Honestly, The “Mom” Part Just Makes Us Sad
Farrah Abraham hasn’t followed the traditional Teen Mom career path. Quitting Teen Mom to “continue with her adult entertainment work” made Global News‘ headlines in 2018 as Farrah’s adult-centric videos circulated the internet. “There are so many paths for me in my life. Hell, I’m only 26,” she said.
Farrah isn’t the only celeb in skimpy clothing to have kids. Kylie Jenner doesn’t wear much more. There’s a difference, though. Kylie hasn’t gone into the adult industry (although with $900 million in 2018, Kylie doesn’t need a career boost).
16 and Pregnant is where Farrah started. Sadly, her daughter’s father died before the birth in a tragic car wreck. While this woman hasn’t had it easy, it is a little sad to see where she’s ended up. We’re sending her good thoughts.
Mariah Carey: Gotta Stay Relevant, Right?
We aren’t the ones calling Mariah Carey a diva. The Daily Mail used the word as it listed this singer’s extortionate hotel demands, although Mariah’s $535 million net worth can afford it. At 48 years old, Mariah looks great. Let’s face it though, this industry is tough on age. Mariah is way behind stars like Cardi B and Nicki Minaj on Instagram.
20 kittens and 100 white doves were Mariah’s hotel arrival requests. Also included, were 8 tall, leafy plants, 75-degree rooms with plain couches (no “busy patterns”), and doors that must open into the living room space.
Spilling out of dresses best describes Mariah’s style. While the gowns tend to be glittery and mostly classy, that Instagram account is still throwing us pics like these. Well, you’ve got to stay relevant.
It’s up you. Either you get this going viral (or you don’t). Hit share on Facebook and give the world a reminder of what #ClothingOptional is.
