Everyone is always looking for the new, trendy way of eating — and things definitely go through phases. There are times when it’s all about plant-based proteins, and times when it’s all about lean proteins. There are times when people avoid sugar entirely, and times when they eat huge amounts of fruit. The amount of crazy diets out there is truly infinite — and the one that keeps popping up lately is the ketogenic diet.
For those who don’t know, the keto diet is basically a way of eating where you eat a very low amount of carbohydrates, a very high amount of fat, and a moderate amount of protein. It’s supposed to help your body stay in the state of ketosis, which has a variety of effects on your body.
Many people find it fairly easy to lose weight on the keto diet, which is why you see it popping up more and more. And, even celebrities aren’t immune to diet trends — in fact, they’re often the ones who start them!
A few celebs have been outspoken about the fact that they follow the keto diet and have seen some great results. Of course, that simply encourages their legions of fans to give it a try — even though most celebs aren’t exactly qualified to give out health advice.
The keto diet obviously isn’t for everyone, and there are many celebrities who are outspoken about the fact that they can’t stand it. Either they simply don’t like the idea of eating such a high amount of fat, or they don’t find that their body responds well to it. These 15 celebrities, though, are all about keto eating.
Halle Berry basically doesn’t age. The gorgeous actress has looked the same for well over two decades now, so obviously people want to know all her secrets.
While she definitely puts plenty of time and care into her appearance, she’s also passionate about what she nourishes her body with. Berry tried out the keto diet because of her natural palate — she really enjoyed meat, and wasn’t a huge fan of sugar or pasta. It seemed like an easy enough switch — and she’s been loving it.
Her diet includes plenty of healthy fats like avocado and coconut oil, as well as a healthy dose of protein.
Kim Kardashian West
Given how often she’s photographed, it’s no wonder that Kim Kardashian West is particular about the way she looks. Her weight has yo-yo’d a bit over the years, particularly after her pregnancies, and she’s turned to different diets to slim her physique back down.
One of those diets, it turns out, was keto. After she had her son, Saint, she went on a version of the Atkins diet (which, basically, is keto eating). She ate plenty of fat and very little carbs — and she managed to shed about 60 pounds! That’s majorly impressive.
We’re not sure if she’s committing to keto eating full time, but we’d bet she gets back on the keto bandwagon any time she needs to lose some weight.
No list of keto celebrities would be complete without the “Keto Guido” himself, Vinny Guadagnino. Guadagnino became famous as one of the cast members on Jersey Shore, and he was always the least muscular of the bunch. That is until he started eating keto.
While Guadagnino’s Italian heritage means he absolutely loves bread and pasta and all types of carbs, he wanted to transform his physique. So, he started eating keto, incorporating plenty of high-fat foods like bacon, steak, fatty fish, and eggs. And, it worked for him — he lost way more weight than anyone thought he had to lose and looks absolutely amazing now.
We have a feeling he’s not going to give up his keto diet anytime soon.
Though she’s largely disappeared from Hollywood now to focus on raising her children, for a while, Megan Fox had one of the best bodies in Hollywood. Everyone wanted her toned physique — and it turns out, she had a simple secret. Keto eating!
While Fox likely didn’t have to work quite as hard to stay in shape pre-kids, once she had her children, she needed to find a way to get her pre-baby body back. So, she turned to keto eating, cutting out all bread and carbs. It definitely wasn’t easy — she joked with E! News that “I don’t eat anything fun” — but it was effective. She looks great!
Alicia Vikander has always been quite slim, but when she snagged the role of Lara Croft, she knew she had to transform her physique. It wasn’t enough to be slim — she needed to look toned, powerful, and pack on a fair bit of muscle.
To accomplish her goal, she obviously spent hours on end in the gym working out. However, she also switched up her diet, opting to follow a ketogenic diet. She ate things like fish, coconut oil, avocado, MCT oil, and plenty of low carbohydrate vegetables. There’s no denying that she transformed her body — she looks like a totally different person in the movie!
Vanessa Hudgens got her start in the industry back when she was just a teen. She’s always looked amazing, but after she put on about 20 pounds to play a role in Gimme Shelter, she needed to mix things up in order to shed that weight. So, she went keto (and, attended SoulCycle classes twice a day).
She’s not the type to count calories, she admitted to People and instead said “think about eating things that are going to fuel you, give you sustainable energy. And don’t be afraid of fats. You can eat bacon; you can eat avocado. It’s good for you and it’s going to give you energy and keep you burning through the day.”
Athletes have an entirely different set of requirements when it comes to their nutrition. While celebrities simply want to look great, athletes need to be able to perform as well — so nutrition is key.
While many athletes carb-load before the big game, Tim Tebow had a bit of a different approach. He commented in a GQ interview a while back that “I’m on something called a ketogenic diet, which is high fat, moderate protein, low carb, low sugar.”
He’s all about avocados — and even once shared a shot of himself eating guacamole right from the container — and obviously, keto eating works for him!
While Khloe is giving her a run for her money now, for a while, Kourtney was the fittest, healthiest Kardashian. Eating healthy was just always a passion of hers, and a while back she decided to give keto a try.
Given that her diet was already healthy, it may not have seemed like much of a stretch to cut out a few more carbs. And, she apparently loved it, saying that the keto way of eating was “a really positive experience for me.”
We’re not sure if she’s going to stay a dedicated keto eater forever, but there’s obviously something about the diet that she really enjoys.
This past Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, supermodel Adriana Lima finally announced her retirement. She had been strutting her stuff on the runway for about two decades, and finally opted to hang up her wings.
While she was prepping for the shows year after year, she apparently swore by the keto diet — although she followed an even stricter version than most. As she told The Cut, before the runway show, it was “definitely zero carbs for sure.” She would simply drink protein shapes, have steamed or grilled proteins, and a few very low carb vegetable options.
Perhaps now that she’s no longer rocking lingerie on the runway, she’ll indulge in all the carb-filled foods she’s avoided for years.
To say that Gwyneth Paltrow has strong opinions about food and health is an understatement. The celeb is better known for her lifestyle brand Goop now than her acting career — and she had quite a successful acting career!
Paltrow has a lot of controversial stances when it comes to food and health, but there’s one area where she agrees with other celebs — keto eating. She’s apparently a big fan of the ketogenic diet and even shared an article on her website explaining exactly what it is.
We have to admit, we totally would have guessed Gwyneth would be a keto fan. I mean, can you really picture her chowing down on a baguette?
Mark Consuelos’ diet of choice was shared by his wife, Kelly Ripa, back in December of last year. During one of Kelly’s chats with co-host Ryan Seacrest on Live with Kelly and Ryan, she admitted that her hubby is eating keto.
She spilled that it ended up working for the two of them — “since he’s been doing that, I’ve been on a mostly carb diet. He’ll have the burger but he won’t have the bun. Then I see that little bun sitting there with burger juice on it and the condiments and yeah, I’m not a big meat eater so I just eat that bun with the lettuce and the tomato and I’m a happy camper.”
Given how incredible Consuelos looks for his age, we’d say the keto diet agrees with him!
Diet isn’t the only thing that reality television star Mama June can credit for her weight loss. She did opt to undergo surgery and get a gastric sleeve, which definitely had a huge impact on her ability to shed pounds. However, diet is still an important part of the journey. And, she found that the ketogenic diet really worked to help her advance her health goals
Given the types of foods she was eating beforehand, we kind of understand why the keto diet would be easier for her to follow. It allowed her to eat plenty of foods she enjoyed, like cheese and meat, and still lose weight. What’s not to love about that?
Sherri Shepherd has had some struggles with her weight over the years. She’s likely tried quite a few different diets, but there’s one that proved quite effective for her — the keto diet.
Shepherd knows that there isn’t really any quick fixes when it comes to sustainable weight loss. So, she just had patience — she followed the ketogenic diet, and watched as she lost over 25 pounds. She actually even went over 260 days without sugar, which is a huge accomplishment.
As she shared on her Instagram account, “this is not a fad — it’s my life that is at stake. It feels so good to feel #good.”
Tim Ferriss may not be the type of celebrity you’ll spot on the red carpet. However, if you enjoy podcasts or personal development books, you’ve probably heard of him. Or, maybe you’ve caught his television show, Fear(less) with Tim Ferriss.
He’s the type of guy who always seems to have a thousand projects in the works. So, how does he fuel his body to make sure he can accomplish whatever he wants? The keto diet.
Ferriss is a huge advocate for both the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting and has been outspoken about how beneficial that way of eating is for him.
Many fans first got to know Jack Osbourne when he was a slightly chubby teen on his family’s reality television show. He’s grown up over the years and changed a lot, including his physique — he’s slimmed down considerably! And, for him, it’s all thanks to the ketogenic diet.
A multiple sclerosis diagnosis was what kicked Osbourne into high gear and got him serious about his health. He switched to a keto-based paleo diet, and managed to lose a staggering 70 pounds — and felt totally transformed.
For him, the keto diet is all about managing his health. With the keto way of eating, he sees less inflammation in his body, which is key to managing his MS.
