15 Celebs Whose Careers We Still Don’t Understand

via: instagram, pinterest

“Jordyn Woods has reportedly moved out of Kylie Jenner’s house.” That was Cosmopolitan’s headline in February 2019 as the internet literally broke at the seams. The news that Jordyn Woods and Tristan Thomspon hooked up made global headlines (although people still aren’t sure what this girl does).

We’ve now reached the stage where being Kylie Jenner’s BFF is a “career.” Yes, you’re a model and influencer, but the reason for that Instagram following is simple– you’re linked to Kylie.

Come to think of it, Kylie herself is one of those celebs. A childhood start on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, fast cars, and designer clothes. Then an admission of cosmetic lip enhancements. Every teen girl in America came to idolized the Kylie pout (and before we knew it, Kylie Cosmetics was making  Forbes’ “billionaire” headlines). Kylie is one intelligent girl.

The KarJenner crowd aren’t the only ones whose careers come with a giant question mark. Take the celebs who have solid careers. JLO? She’s a best-selling artist, dancer, and actress. Jennifer Aniston? Became a household name overnight on Friends. Whether it’s Donatella Versace or Justin Bieber, most celebrities have a career we can understand.

Socialities. So famous, but why? They go to parties. They shop at Louis Vuitton. If they have an Instagram account, they get paid buckets of cash to promote stuff. It’s when the promoters seem to have little else in the way of substance that everyone starts getting confused. We still love them, though.

We don’t really know what they do. But they’re famous anyway. Here are 15 celebs whose careers we still don’t understand.

Jordyn Woods: Kylie Jenner’s BFF (Status May Change)

via: instagram

Well, hello, little miss headline maker. Jordyn Woods spent most of 2018 being the tag-along to her BFF, Kylie Jenner. Boom– arrives 2019. The news that Jordyn Woods has been involved with Khloe Kardashian’s man is now all everyone can talk about. As Harper’s Bazaar reports, Khloe initially blamed Jordyn, but she took it back.

Khloe: “What’s been harder & more painful is being hurt by someone so close to me. Someone whom I love & treat like a little sister. But Jordyn is not to be blamed for the breakup of my family. This was Tristan’s fault.”

What Jordyn does? She’s a model. She also has her own clothing line and Kylie Cosmetics collaborations. With over nine million Instagram followers (most likely due to her friendship with Kylie Jenner), Jordyn Woods’ following has jumped up significantly since the Tristan drama. Admittedly, this girl seems sweet, smart, and she’s very beautiful.

DJ Khaled: Repeating JLO’s Lyrics (But What A Personality)

via: E!

DJ Khaled is straight-up addictive. It kind of goes like this with him: #1 Didn’t have a clue who he was. #2 Got curious. #3 Started watching. #4 Can’t stop watching. DJ Khaled is a music producer who has a way of featuring in his own videos– generally doing the same thing, but it’s awesome.

JLO: “Money.” DJ Khaled (louder): “MONEY!” JLO: “Dinero!” DJ Khaled (louder): “DINERO!”

2018 brought us “Dinero” from JLO, Cardi B, and DJ Khaled. While we do enjoy watching this guy wave his arms in the air and shout JLO’s lyrics with his own voice, we’re still not entirely sure what he does. Is DJ Khaled’s job to just reinstate assertions from Jennifer Lopez? The side-kick career as a Weight Watchers spokesperson we would understand…if we actually knew what his job is. Maybe we should learn more about producing.

Kourtney Kardashian: Being A Mother And Eating Salad

via: instagram

Kourtney Kardashian has over 74 million Instagram followers. The account seems to be a spin-off of Kim Kardashian’s Instagram, tweaked to Kourtney. This girl’s career? Well, she’s the “OG” mom of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. If being on a show that’s basically cruising around Calabasas and getting your nails done makes your head explode, we can’t help you. We’re too busy loving it.

Kourtney features on virtually every episode of KUWTK. What she does? Well, she plays with her kids (name one mother who doesn’t). She also eats a lot of salad (but never finishes them). People need to stop bashing Kourt, and she is a loving mother, but it’s when you try and say “loving and hard-working” that you start scratching your head.

Kourtney’s “job” appears to literally be waiting for her glam squad, flying around the world (because she’s been invited), and getting insulted by Kim. And yet, we can’t help watching.

Paris Hilton: Famous For Being Famous

via: vogue

She’s the original “famous for being famous” girl. The 2000s brought us Paris Hilton, the party animal (and boy did she party). Cute, leggy, blonde, and up for anything, Paris was the socialite of the moment– enough to land her The Simple Life as her own show. Then again, as The Odyssey reports, this girl has her quotes.

“Every woman should have four pets in her life. A mink in her closet, a jaguar in her garage, a tiger in her bed, and a jackass who pays for everything.”

Paris Hilton is heiress to the Hilton hotel fortune. She grew up rich and people seemed to want to see it. Chihuahuas. Pink cars. Mansions. Now a DJ and still selling her very successful fragrances, Paris is an A-Lister who earns her cash.  We just don’t know how she started.

Kylie Jenner: $1Billion, But Started Out Paid To Be Filmed “Living”

via: instagram

Nobody saw this one coming. Kim Kardashian was enjoying her reign as the family’s queen bee for quite some years, but a little competition was just around the corner. She comes as one Kylie Jenner (whose Instagram following now sits at over 127 million). Keeping Up With The Kardashians showed us a spoiled teenager doing… not much. Apparently, that’s enough to get you famous. Kylie has since grown up, though.

“I had such a huge platform, I had so many followers already and I had so many people watching me…but none of my money is inherited.”

In 2019, Kylie Jenner defended her “self-made billionaire” status, as The Independent reports. How she got there? Admitting to getting lip injections, every girl in America worshipping the result, and Kylie Cosmetics becoming the biggest brand around. Well done Kylie, but we still don’t get the start.

Teen Mom: Had Babies At 16, Zillions Of Instagram Followers

via: people

Literally, what. Teen Mom was the show you used to watch because you were too lazy to find the remote. Now a nation-wide sensation, the Teen Mom franchise that started with 16 and Pregnant is one of the most talked-about shows around. Maci Bookout, Caitlynn Lowell, Farrah Abraham, and Amber Portwood are just some of the cast (who are now earning big bucks).

Maci Bookout: “There’s no red-carpet prestige or glamorous piles of money. I still live in Chattanooga and go to Wal-Mart and buy bread and milk.” Her home is worth $625,000.

As The Blast reports Maci’s purchases and she takes to her book to explain her thoughts, everyone’s left thinking the same thing. Having a baby at 16 turns you into a celebrity? If only it did for us! Admittedly, Maci is pretty inspirational.

Corey Gamble: Something To Do With “Production,” Kris Jenner Put Him On The Map

via: ok

Here’s something amusing. Type “What does Corey Gamble” into Google, and it auto drops-down to: “What does Corey Gamble do?” Kris Jenner has called her boyfriend her “ride or die,” The Daily Mail reports. She’s 63. He’s 38. While the love seems 100% genuine, Corey does seem to get the Versace perks (and somehow, the fame).

According to Bravo TV, Corey used to work with Scooter Braun– who worked with Justin Bieber. That’s great. We know someone who used to work with someone who served fries to Justin Timberlake at Wendy’s (just kidding). Being in a relationship with a famous person isn’t a crime, though. You love who you love.

There’s still a giant question mark, though. Keeping Up With The Kardashians shows us snippets of Corey. He’ll give “an opinion” here or there. What Corey’s actual job is, that’s still a mystery.

Blac Chyna: Still Zero Clue What She Actually Does

via: instagram

Blac Chyna– you know her name, but you still have zero clue what she does. With over 15 million followers on Instagram (and an account that mostly seems to involve bikini poses on cars), Chyna remains as “clear” as she is a mystery. She’s a baby momma to Tyga and Rob Kardashian. Rob & Chyna got axed, but this girl keeps going.

“I wanted to show people my personality, that I’m not just a pretty face or what some people paint me out to be: this bad person, this stripper ho. I want them to see me as a mom, a businesswoman, a growing being.”

Speaking to Elle about her modeling career and business ventures, Chyna made it clear that she doesn’t want to be seen as unsavory (maybe tone down the pics a bit?) Chyna sells lashes and promotes Fashion Nova. Besides that, we literally don’t have a clue.

The Real Housewives Of Wherever: You Don’t Need Us To Explain It

via: mammamia

It just doesn’t end. The Real Housewives Of Orange County. The Real Housewives of Atlanta. The Real Housewives Of New York. The TV franchise that started out as a slightly more “real” version of Keeping Up With The Kardashians is now big enough of a deal to make major headlines.

Bethenny Frankel started out on the franchise. Now she sells Skinny Girl Cocktails. Porsha Williams grips the South, but she mostly seems to be earning her cash from her “virgin” hair line.

They have catfights. They go to brunch. They all wear somewhat similar, low-cut dresses. While these ladies are glamorous (and their ratings are high), we’ll admit, we’re still not entirely sure what their careers are.

Kim Kardashian: KKW Beauty Empire Now, But It Was This Back In The Day

via: popsugar

Kim Kardashian is now an authority on just about everything. The “OG” selfie taker is now CEO of KKW Beauty, the main face of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and there isn’t a beauty convention in the world that doesn’t want her. Kim also has three kids. The start was pretty bizarre, though. Remember Kim and Kourtney Take Miami? It was literally just them walking around emptying Louis Vuitton.

“The free [stuff] No, free trips. Free planes. Free everything. But I do love to share, when I get free stuff I literally give it to all my friends and family.”

When Elle interviewed Kim on fame, she was quick to admit that the “free stuff” is the biggest pro. A career running a beauty empire, we get. One that’s just shopping and cocktails? Where do we sign?

Larsa Pippen: Being Kim’s BFF Is A Job

via: instagram

Okay, this one just goes too far. Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian are “famous for being famous,” and we seem to have made our peace with that. We’ll sit there and watch ad breaks between their shows because it’s worth it. Larsa Pippen is the high-end Los Angeles wife who seems to have a career for being Kim’s bestie.

Larsa appears on the show. She doesn’t do much talking (although she listens to Kim and seems to be a good friend). Larsa is also married to an NBA member (although take note, ladies, *cough* Tristan Thompson *cough*)

“He’s harassing me,” Kim told Larsa on Season 15 of KUWTK as she revealed that Kanye West was “stuck on, like seven [kids].” We’re the ones who are supposed to be listening. Wait– we can get paid to do it on the show?

Kate Gosselin: Famous For Disciplining Her 8 Kids

via: justjared

And so continues the bizarre string of reality stars who seem to have taken over our lives. Current ones? We get that. Catelynn Lowell, Maci Bookout, Kylie Jenner, and Nikki Bella are “news.” Kate Plus 8 feels so old, we’re beginning to wonder if this woman’s kids are old enough to drive. Somehow though, still news.

Kate Plus 8 was the show that saw Kate Gosselin raise sextuplets, plus two other kids. Everything kind of went downhill after Kate divorced, then more so after The Daily Mail reported her nanny quitting– cleaning up chicken muck and doing “pool maintenance” was one step too far.

Kate did make headlines for disciplining her kids. A major talking point for moms this woman may be, but quite how she’s a celebrity, we’re still not sure.

Snooki: Did Stuff On A “Shore”, Now An Adored Mom

via: instagram

In 2018, Reality TV revealed that Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi’s salary on the original series of Jersey Shore was just $200 a week. The formerly perma-tanned star said: “I had never gotten that much in a week, like, every single week, because you usually get paid every two weeks.”

Times have changed. With millions of Instagram followers, her own brand, and a third pregnancy that made front-page news in 2018, Snooki is now a celebrity.

$150,000 per episode were Snooki’s earnings on later seasons of Jersey Shore, Elite Daily reports. So. Let’s get this straight. Being from New Jersey. Walking around it. Arguing. Suddenly, a celebrity? While this girl is admittedly lovable beyond belief, her career still doesn’t make a huge amount of sense.

Scott Disick: 3 Kids With A Kardashian And It’s A “Career”

via: pinterest

Scott Disick has a lot of charm– buckets of it. The “on-off” boyfriend and dad of three to Kourtney Kardashian has been a regular on Keeping Up With The Kardashians since, like, ever. Now an A-Lister in his own right, Scott has his own “Talentless” clothing line, a 20+ million-strong Instagram following, and still, he’s on this list.

“I spent some time in a really nice place in Malibu. Kind of reached out for my head over my shoulders and a restart in life. Sometimes you need a little bit of a time out.”

As E! reports, Scott was talking about his rehab. Malibu, in general, isn’t bad. As to the “time out.” When your life is one giant party, it’s just that tiny bit harder to relate to the need for “time out.” Scott has since calmed down as his relationship with Sofia Richie gets serious.

JoJo Fletcher: Don’t Get Us Started On The Bachelorette

via: instagram

Watching a show about regular people falling in love is, admittedly, pretty addictive. For anyone who is done with Kardashian glam (but still wants that special something), Bachelor Nation is the answer. Girls and guys go on the show, it’s all roses and getting down on one knee, and boyfriends are rolling their eyes at how many tissues the girlfriend is going through.

Alongside Becca Kufrin, JoJo Fletcher, Ashley Iaconetti, Rachel Lindsay, and Colton Underwood are all now major stars. What they did to earn their fame? They literally signed up for the show, dated, then set up Instagram accounts.

We’d be total hypocrites to say we haven’t all watched it here and there. For a full-blown career though, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are really pushing the boat out.

Admit it– it’s hilarious and confusing all at once. Hit share on Facebook for anyone you know who will totally smile at this.
